Identification of ru domains through State Services - what needs to be done before September 1, 2026

From September 1, 2026, the rules for working with domains in the .ru, .рф and .suzones are changing in Russia. Now any operations with a domain are possible only after identification through State Services. This is a requirement of Law No. 569-FZ and cannot be ignored.

Why is this needed

The point is simple - to confirm that the domain is managed by a real person. According to the state, this will give you: protection against domain “hijacking”, legal clarity of ownership, reduction of gray and fraudulent schemes

What happens if you do nothing

The site itself will not be lost right away, but restrictions will begin with the domain:

• cannot be extendeddomain
• cannot be transferred to another owner
• cannot be controlled normally

Who must be identified

Individuals with an account on State Services. Important: the account must be verified.

Legal entities. Before undergoing identification, it is worth checking: whether the company is registered in State Services and whether the employee responsible for domains has been added to the company account.

Non-residents of the Russian Federation. Foreign citizens can also create an account on State Services and undergo identification.

How the process works for individuals

1. Visit your registrar
2. Click “Pass identification” (note that not all registrars have implemented the identification process yet)
3. Log in through State Services
4. Grant access to data

Then the system itself checks the information. If the data matches, then everything happens automatically. If there is no data, they will ask you to fill it out through State Services. If the data is notmatch - you need to confirm the owner

How long does it take

• usually - a few minutes (on reg.ru and nic.ru it turned out that way)
• if manually - up to 3 working days

However, don’t put it off until the last minute, there will be more workload and more problems later. It is better to identify yourself in advance or move to another domain  and continue to work calmly.
