BotGuard for OpenCart 3.x
A practical module for protecting a store from massive junk traffic, aggressive bots, scanners, simple parsers and typical automated attacks.
BotGuard does not promise “absolute protection from everything,” but it does a good job of covering the main widespread problems that stores on OpenCart face: excess load, brute-force requests, vulnerability scanning, suspicious calls to service paths and garbage automated bots.
The module is especially useful for stores that:

receive a lot of strange requests in the logs;
face load from bots and crawlers;
want to limit suspicious traffic without installing heavy external services;
want to see who was blocked and why.

For which versions is suitable

If you have a highly customized build,non-standard frontend launch, deep kernel changes or non-standard proxy scheme, before installation it is advisable to make a backup copy and check the work on a test bench.

What the module really helps with

from massive simple bots;
from primitive parsers;
from automated vulnerability scanners;
from part of the junk SEO bot traffic;
fromtoo frequent requests from one IP;
from searching through typical service URLs;
from part of headless/automated traffic;
from basic low and medium level load scenarios.

What the module does not provide guaranteed protection against

from a targeted manual attack under your store;
from complex distributed
```
DDoS
```
attacks;
from a professional botnet with a large IP pool;
from all types of parsing without exception;
fromlogical vulnerabilities of a theme, template, third-party modules or kernel;
from SQL Injection/XSS/RCE, if the vulnerability already exists in other code;
from hacking a server, hosting panel, FTP or mail;
from spam/abuse if the problem occurs within a vulnerable form or third-party module;
from “smart” bots that imitate normal user behaviorbetter than typical automated traffic.

Important to understand BotGuard does not replace:

OpenCart update;
secure hosting;
server protection and WAF;
Cloudflare or similar reverseproxy;
audit of third-party modules;
backups;
basic security of the admin panel and server.

That is, the module is not a “magic pill”.
Its task: to significantly reduce the main harm from massive automatic traffic and close the typical weak points of a store on OpenCart 3.Benefits for the store owner

reduces unnecessary load on the store;
reduces the number of garbage requests;
helps to quickly cut off unwanted traffic;
gives clear logs and control from the admin panel;
does not require an external service for basic protection;
is suitable as a practical “first line” protection.

Who is suitable for

small and medium-sized stores on OpenCart 3;
projects where scanners and junk traffic are already visible inlogs;
stores that need additional protection without complex infrastructure;
owners who want to control blocking from the admin panel.

Who may not be suitable for

projects with a very complex network diagram without understanding reverse proxy;
stores with a non-standard core and a large number of conflicting modifiers;
high-load projects that already need a separate WAF/CDN/anti-DDoS level;
for those who are looking for “100% protection against any attacks” without maintenance and configuration.
